Black mirror is a futuristic serie that criticizes new technology and social media and how we use it and how we get so engaged into everyones opinion about anything.
This chapter tells a story set in a time where the government has paid an organization to create robotic bees to pollinate plants as the natural bees have been extinted and if they did not took this solution, most of the plants from our planet would disappear.
The main character is a women that works solving murders. In this chapter her duty starts with a women that has appeared dead on the floor of her house. They hunch that is all fault from her husband but after interrogating him, he said that it wasn’t his fault and that it all happened suddenly.
On another place of the world another famous rapper died suddenly and they had time to film how it happened. When he wasn’t still dead, they brought him into the sacanner machine where, while they were trying to test his brain, a robotic bee came out of his head through the eye place.
While this was happening, when examinating the first women who died, they found out that a robotic bee was inside her head too.
Once the main character got to see both bees, she inmediatly went to talk with the man incharged of the bees. He could not belive it was possible at all. After talking to him, they found out a web page which explained that those people with the hastag #deathto would be eliminated at 5 pm of that day.
They inmediatly found who was at the top of the list in that moment and tried to protect her. Despite their hard work on keeping the bees away, one still got inside her and killed her.
After this, they inmediatly begun searching for the person who hacked the system and found some people who worked on the organization of the robotic bees that could be suspects. After asking most of them, they found a girl who tried to suicide because of messages on social media but her room mate saved her. They asked about him but he suspiciously left the organization 6 months ago.
At the same time, the president at that time realiced that he was the next one to be killed and that he could not do anything to protect himself.
After investigating a lot about the man who haked the robots, they found a burnt memory disk were they founf hundreds of names that used the hastag #deathto.
Because of a problem a man from the government comitted, he pressed a bottom wich made all the million of bees located all around the city go and kill all the people who writted that hastag. Then they discovered that that was the hakers main objective when he begun all this. So, at the end, million of people died from all around the city.
In my opinion…
By watching this chapter, we get to see all the negative parts in social media and how everyone constantly are updating negative comments about other people which unconciously are suffering for reciveing those opinions. Eventhough this chapter is a little excessive, it represents very nicely how our society will end if we are still behaving like this.
It also mentions the effects of global pollution which will make us get to the point in which we will need technological solutions as we will not be caring for our natural solutions.
